'Sleepwalking' is the cover art for the ninth studio album by the British band Magnum. In true Magnum tradition, Tony Clarkin sketched out the essence of what he wanted for the album cover, and in true Matthews tradition he made a few additions. The mirror shows Tony shaven-headed as he is now and beside it is a wig to remind people of how he used to look. The suggestion that he ever did wear a wig is purely Matthews' own little joke. Other Matthews inclusions are the jets from 'The Eleventh Hour', the bag and stick from 'On A Storyteller's Night', certain book titles, the Lord's Prayer scroll, Birmingham City football socks and the nose boil ointment as used by Bob Catley when the cover was being discussed - sorry Bob!
Matthews remembers that this illustration took twenty-six days to complete, and, whilst not typical of his style of illustration, it was a challenge he enjoyed. He also enjoyed several trips to the Magnum studio, where he was able to hear some of the tracks being laid down.

Birthday Present from my wife for my 70th very happy with the signed print looks amazing framed and Hanging on the wall In my man cave Thank you Rodney matthews.
The service was amazing. The signed print was a present for my husband for Valentines and it was a bit last minute so I asked if it could be rushed through. The lady called me back and said that the order had been rushed through and would be with me in plenty of time, which it was. My husband says that it's brilliant and can't wait to get it framed and on the wall. Thank you again.
My husband bought me this for christmas and what a surprise. We're big magnum fans and have a few prints now. He made a frame and put the title below, it looks superb, the colours are really magnificent and the attention to detail regarding magnums past is truly brilliant. I'm looking forward to seeing what our next item will be. I just wish i could have taken a picture for you to see it in it's frame. Keep up the good work 👏
This has to be my favourite album cover by Rodney for Magnum. Lots of nods to the past (as was) and self deprecating humour in the form of Tony’s beard and hair and Mr Catley as the vividly suited jack in a box. Just brilliant. Prompt delivery and a very nice hand addressed tube which I will also treasure!
