Vortex magazine: The Crab original preparatory sketch

A signed original pencil drawing on tracing paper from 1977.  Titled 'The Crab', this preparatory sketch precedes the full colour image commissioned by Vortex magazine.  The finished image was intended as a front cover, but unused due to the early demise of the company.  The crab itself is derived from an earlier Matthews artwork, drawn in 1966, where it appeared on a single coloured poster advertising a band!

Authentication is provided by an accompanying certificate of authenticity, which will be "genuine original artwork" stamped, dated and hand-signed by Rodney Matthews.

Measures 361 (h) x 478 (w) mm, inclusive of mount.

Tracing paper has naturally yellowed with age.  Some visible foxing (small yellow spots), which has now been treated. Three creases are along the length of the image.  The condition is reflected in the price.
