A brand new, hand-signed, original 1980s poster.  Painted in 1983, Matthews influences for this one came from three sources: the Holy Bible, Matthew 24:42, 'Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come'; the film 'Blade Runner'; and reading and researching the Shroud of Turin (Matthews added the eyes in the face of Christ).  The image (with the face of Christ removed) was licensed the following year to the band Eloy for their album 'Metromania'.

This was a work that was so influential on my creative life

This was a work that was so influential on my creative life, it's difficult to overstate how greatful I am to Mr. Matthews for showing me early in my youth how one can meld both a life of faith and joyful creativity. Thank you! Thank you! This picture arrived exactly as I remember it! :D

The Picture That Changed It All For Me

...When I was 16 years old in 1986, I began flipping through a book of fantasy art called 'In Search of Forever.' I was having some challenges in my life; I loved my newfound faith, but I also loved the worlds of fantasy and science fiction. Both worlds seemed opposed to one another; would I have to choose? And if so, which one?
Thankfully, I turned the page and saw...Be Watchful. The picture in a moment became the Beatrice to my inner Dante. 'Yes," it said to you me, 'you can love *both* Christianity *and* the worlds of your mind and heart that give you so much joy!"
Since then, I have managed to not only have a successful career as a teacher, but also as a published novelist of science fiction and fantasy who weaves the themes of both science and faith into the works I write.
I have always loved this work, and am glad I can now, in my middle age, buy a print and hang it on my wall. Thank you, Mr. Matthews, for the inspiration you provided to a young teenage lad many years ago, and the works I have completed which, in truth, were begun by you.
