The Fantastic Intergalactic Adventures of Stanley and Livingston

Earlier this week, Sarah and I had a visit from an old friend, Marco Palmer, who was accompanied by his wife Abby.  I had not met Abby before and must say what a pleasure it was to do so now.  I first met Marco (a Californian), now living in Scotland, when many years ago he approached me (together with Rodd Christensen - another American, then also living in Scotland) to commission  cover artwork for their album 'Jurassic Church'.  Rodd - an actor, who played Spencer in the children's TV series 'Balamory' eventually moved back to Las Vegas, while Marco stayed in the UK to concentrate on his children's story-writing and film-scripting.

You may remember, in one of my earlier blogs, that I wrote of a computer game - SOS Dark Planet - that did not see the light of day (you can read about it by clicking here)?  My original idea for the game was inspired by the historic explorers Dr Livingston (I presume), and HM Stanley (who went to track him down in deepest, darkest Africa).  Had the game made it to release my characters Stan and Liv would have taken its players on a planet-hopping rescue mission, as they refuelled their spacecraft on bizarre and dangerous planets, while encountering strange creatures, some helpful and some not!

Anyway, where am I going with this, you may ask.  Well, I tend to recycle stuff that does not get used and so decided to invite Marco, whose writing I knew from his "Rodd & Marco" stuff was side-splittingly funny, to flesh out the concept ... and that, he did!  The joint venture has so far resulted in the published novel The Fantastic Intergalactic Adventures of Stanley and Livingston:

This story is the first in a potential trilogy.  In fact, Marco has not only written part two of Stanley & Livingston, but has also crafted an hilarious film-script to compliment this concept.  The "concept", incidentally, is unashamedly centred on a lavatorial theme; our two heroes travel the universe by means of a mysterious porcelain ring, known as the Starflush, which has crash-landed on their home planet, Cessestial.  Monsters!  Machines!  Strange alien races and places!  Perilous predicaments!  It's all here!

Below are some of the illustrations and design work I've done for both book and movie concepts:
