Archiva (Asia album cover) full colour original painting by Rodney Matthews
Matthews' third album cover design for Asia. The band ran their own studio, ‘Electric Palace’, in London, where over the Christmas period there was a big freeze, resulting in burst water pipes. In the ensuing chaos a number of spools of recording tape were discovered, which subsequently proved to be forgotten recordings by the band. Matthews was provided with the title Archiva for the album, but the concept design was his own. He chose to use cobwebs to represent the required theme: the forgotten objects hidden by time. The spider became the central focal point of the image. Note the recurring theme of the nuclear symbol on its back.
