Venus Cruiser and The Ghoul were designed as covers for the two volumes of Clark Ashton Smith’s Other Dimensions. They are collections of short stories written in the ‘20s and ‘30s and are fairly characteristic of the period. Venus Cruiser is Matthews' interpretation of a planetary coaster used in the exploration of Venus by a scientific party from Earth in the tale The Immeasurable Horror. Unfortunately, the original artwork was “lost” at some stage in the production of the 1980 calendar.
